President Mr hands over houses to War Hero Families!

Colombo::Under the twelfth phase of the 'Api Wenuwen Api' housing project for war heroes, 100 brand news houses completed in the Matale district of the Central Province were handed over to their respective owners by His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a special ceremony held at the Nugagolla School ground in Matale today (3rd June).
Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa were also present at the occasion.
 
HE the President ceremonially handed over the first house to Corporal GGUK Wanasinghe, a resident of Yaya II of Ihalagama, Bathgampola in Wilgamuwa in the presence of the Maha Sangha. Gift parcels and stationary packs for children was also given at the occasion by the Chief Guest.
Meanwhile, additional stationary packs were also gifted to the Nugegolla Dharma Pradeepa School and Nugegolla Maha Vidyalaya.
 
The Ministry of Defence and Urban Development launched the 'Api Wenuwen Api' housing project with the aim of elevating the living standard of War Heroes and their families by supporting them to construct their own houses. This project is being carried out under the guidance and close supervision of Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Chairperson of the Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa.
 
A total of 70 Army, 20 Navy and 10 Air Force war hero families received houses under the twelfth phase of the 'Api Wenuwen Api' housing project.
So far houses have been built covering Kandy, Kurunegala, Matara, Hambantota, Monaragala, Badulla, Galle, Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Kalutara, Kegalle, Polonnaruwa Gampaha and Rathnapura districts.
 
It is not only the war hero family but also the whole society where they live benefit from this project. Steps are taken to improve the basic infrastructure facilities like roads, electricity, telecommunication, water and sanitary facilities of the local community. Particular attention has taken to improve the local schools.
 
Religious Dignitaries, Senior Ministers, Members of Parliament, Governor of the Central Province Hon. Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Chairperson of the MoD Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa including chairpersons of Army and Navy SVUs, Director General of Media Centre for National Security, Commanders of Navy and Air Force, provincial councillors, government officials, officials of the MOD SVU, and a large numbers of gathering were present at the occasion.
