Trincomalee::CHis Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksha declared open the maritime museum at the Dutch Naval Commissioner's House in Trincomalee on 03rd February 2013. Minister of National Heritage, Hon. Jagath Balasooriya, Netherlands Ambassador to Sri Lanka, His Excellency LWM Piet, Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Hon. Susantha Punchinilame, Eastern Province Governor, Rear Admiral (Rtd) Mohan Wijewikrama, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage and senior armed forces personnel in the area were also present on the occasion.
The Dutch Naval Commissioner's House, which had been in ruins due to un-protective exposure to elements, was renovated by the Sri Lanka Navy preserving its architectural and historical value under the direction of the Department of Archeology with the financial assistance from the Government of the Netherlands.
