Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs calls on Secretary Defence!

Colombo::A nine member delegation from the Republic of Estonia led by its Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Urmas Pact called on Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Defence Ministry premises today (14th February).

The delegation held discussions with the Secretary Defence on matters of bilateral relations and mutual co-operation between the two states.

Estonia declared its independence in 1918 and it became a member of the European Union on 1st May 2004. Diplomatic relations were established between Estonia and Sri Lanka on 31st January 1996.

Estonia and Sri Lanka have an Intergovernmental Agreement for Co-operation in Culture, Education and Science which foresees interlibrary loaning, creating contacts between universities and other educational and scientific establishments, exchanging of TV and radio programmes, and co-operation between sports and youth organizations.

During the meeting mementos were exchanged between the visiting Foreign Minister and Secretary Defence.


Officials of the Ministry of Defence, External affairs and the Commander of the Navy were also present at the occasion.
