Thursday, November 03, 2011Four controlled light category machines including spares and metal detectors worth USD 2.7M was donated by the Russian Federation today (03rd Nov), facilitating ongoing humanitarian demining operations in the North and East.
Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka H.E Vladimir P. Mikhalov graced the event held at the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development. The equipment were officially receive by Secretary Defence and Urban Developemnt Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Dr. P.B Jayasundara - Secretary Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economic Development, Mr. K. Amunugama - Secretary Ministry of External Affairs, Army Commander Lt Gen Jagath Jayasuriya, Military Liaison Officer Maj Gen (Retd) W.P.P Fernando, Additional Secretary (Development- MOD) Mrs. H.K. Balasooriya , Mrs. Nihal Somaweera, Director Mine Action Centre of Sri Lanka were also among the distinguished gathering present.
