US Congressmen pleased with fast development & excellent Civil-Military relations in Jaffna!

A team of high ranking US parliamentarians accompanied by Sri Lankan Ambassador to the USA Mr. Jaliya Wickramasuriya arrived in Jaffna on Wednesday (19) to get first hand experience on the present situation in Jaffna. Having been welcomed to the Headquarters Security Force - Jaffna (SF-J) Palaly, the US delegation met Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe at his office where they shared ideas related to bilateral interest. Later, they were given a comprehensive account on the government-augmented post war development programmes in Jaffna which are on the fast track. Road development, development of infrastructure for fisher and farming communities and new business ventures coming up in Jaffna were among the areas that drew enthusiasm of the visiting US delegation.

They were also enlightened on amiable civil-military relations in Jaffna and humanitarian assistance given to the people in the peninsula to uplift their educational, economical and cultural development by Sri lankan Army. Steps taken by the Army to maintain peace and harmony in Jaffna through various civic-oriented activities were commended by the members of the team during the meeting with the SF-J Commander. They were highly pleased and with the fast development in the post war Jaffna within a span of two and half years after the end of the war.

They met Government Agent Jaffna Mrs. Emelda Sukumar before leaving Jaffna after a successful visit.

Congressman Hon. Albert Benjamin Chandler, III, Congressman Hon. Jack Haddens Kingston, Congressman Hon. Joseph Heath Shuler and a few other US and Sri Lankan diplomatic and military officials were present on the occasion.
