இலங்கைக்கு உத்தியோகபூர்வ விஜயம் மேற்கொண்டுள்ள இந்திய வெளியுறவுச் செயலர் ரஞ்சன் மாத்தாய், பொருளாதார அபிவிருத்தி அமைச்சர் பஷில் ராஜபக்சவுடன் இன்று திங்கட்கிழமை பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்தியுள்ளார்.
வடக்கு கிழக்கில் யுத்தத்தின் பின்னரான அபிவிருத்தித் திட்டங்கள் குறித்து இதன்போது விரிவாக ஆராயப்பட்டுள்ளது.

யாழில் 50 ஆயிரம் வீடுகள் அமைக்கும் இந்தியாவின் திட்டம் தொடர்பில் இரு தரப்பினரும் தமது அபிப்ராயங்களை முன்வைத்துள்ளனர்.

தமிழ்த் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்புடனான சந்திப்பையடுத்து தமிழ் மக்களின் நிலைப்பாடு பற்றி ரஞ்சன் மாத்தாய் அமைச்சருக்கு தெளிவுபடுத்தியதாகவும் அமைச்சின் ஊடகப் பிரிவு தெரிவித்தது.

Indian Foreign Secretary meets SL Economic Development Minister!
Indian Foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai met Basil Rajapaksha, Minister of Economic Development at the Ministry of Economic Development today. Minister Rajapaksa and Indian Foreign Secretary reviewed the progress on development projects initiated under Indian assistance in the North and Eastern provinces. Discussions were held on various aspects of the bilateral relationships between the two countries specially on trade investment and tourism.

This is the first visit made by Indian Foreign Secretary Mathai to Sri Lanka since he succeeded Nirupama Rao who was appointed as the High Commissioner to the US, in August

Ranjan Mathai entered the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in the year 1974. He occupied several important positions in the Indian Foreign Service Ministry. He served in the Indian Embassies in Tehran, Brussels, Vienna, Colombo, Washington etc.

Mathai, who was a popular person, also worked as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from January 1995 to February 1998.

He also served as the Indian Ambassador to Israel & Qatar as well as the Deputy High Commissioner of India in UK.

Indian Ambassador in Sri Lanka Ashok K Kantha and officials from Ministry of Economic Development also participated in the discussion.
