New Jaffna Commander Given Hindu & Buddhist Blessings!

Colombo::Major General Jagath Alwis, the newly-appointed Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with a view to receiving blessings of religious faiths for the first time after his assumption of duties in Jaffna, called at sacred Nallur Kovil and Jaffna Sri Naga Viharaya on Tuesday (2).

At first, he made offerings to the Nallur Hindu Kovil and met Rev Sri La Sri Somasundara Desiga Gnanasambanda Paramacharya Swamigal at Nallai Adeenam office in the premises to receive blessings.

The priest after invoking blessings on his appointment invited the Jaffna Commander to join temple ceremonies whenever possible.

Afterwards, the new Commander attended Buddhist religious observances at the Sri Naga Viharaya in the centre of Jaffna town and offered Pirikara to the incumbent, Ven Meegahajadure Gnanarathana Thero.

Chanting of Seth Pirith by members of the Maha Sangha blessed the new appointment at the same occasion after offerings were made to the Buddha and the Bodhiya in the premises.
