Sri Lanka Wake-Up: Creation of another Kosovo is the objective!

Thursday, February 21, 2013
Washington, D.C. 20 February (Asiantribune.com)The ever vibrant pro-LTTE Tamil Diaspora in Western Capitals whose prominent activist leaders, now well known to the international community, who provided 'expert advice' to the LTTE leadership that included its leader Velupillai Prabhaharan, who mobilized in the American and European Continents to raise billions of dollars and organized from West to the East to procure military gear, immediately after the annihilation of the terror outfit and its leadership within the shores of Sri Lanka launched an international campaign to bifurcate Sri Lanka

What Prabhaharan failed to achieve through massacres, extra-judicial killings and mass terror throughout this South Asian nation terrorizing all ethnic groups and holding the minority Tamils in the Tiger-held North and East as captive people denying their basic human rights and rule of law and physically eliminating moderate Tamil national leaders which the West has already forgotten , the international actors of the pro-separatist group have taken over to create a 'Kosovo-type' psychology among the key players of the international community, 'The West'. And now, that wind has blown toward the UN and UNHRC in Geneva.

Since the defeat of the LTTE and the demise of its leadership in May 2009, Asian Tribune columns on many a occasion with hard facts and evidence showed that a new 'separatist war' has been 'declared' in the international arena.

Some, or most, of our pronouncements went to deaf ears because the noise of the defeat of terrorism within Sri Lanka was much more louder.

In these columns, we talked about Sri Lanka's deficiency in the areas of overseas public affairs, public diplomacy and strategic communication at a time the 'professionals' of the Tamil Diaspora in the West were steadily making a case for Sri Lanka's isolation in the international community.

Their 'voice' in the Western policymakers' and lawmakers' chambers was seen burying the infantile diplomatic 'sound bytes' of Sri Lanka.

The 'separatist agenda' of the Tamil Diaspora, much pugnacious than Prabhaharan's terrorism engulfed the offices of principal policy and lawmakers.

Their voice went into official documents of foreign ministries of Western nations. And, then to the United Nations, and finally to the UNHRC in Geneva.

Sri Lanka is being hit by three fronts: The pro-separatist Tamil lobby in the West, foreign ministries of Western nations and the UNHRC in Geneva. (This Online Newspaper will bring comprehensive analyses of the Three Fronts this weekend).

The international lobby of the pro-separatist Tamil Diaspora is on its way to Geneva in March. Before that, they are preparing the ground work. Last week they held an international symposium in Malaysia. Two weeks before that in London.

Another component of laying that ground work was seen in India's premier newspaper The Hindu carrying a description of the death of LTTE leader Prabhaharan's son during the final battle in May 2009.

This writer is well aware of the media tactics U.S. State Department officials and their counterparts - Foreign Service Officers - use when they want to raise issues for the consumption of the rest of the world. Friendly and close contacts of media personnel sometimes become very useful to the State Department. Hence a question that the officials cannot themselves raise is raised by a media personnel.

On Tuesday, February 19 at the Media Briefing at the State Department in Washington the Hindu newspaper account of Prabhaharan's son's death, attributed by the propagandists of the pro-separatist Tamil Diaspora to the Sri Lanka military, was raised, and the spokesperson Victoria Nuland replied giving a message to the Sri Lanka government, a message the Diaspora wanted Washington to come out with.

Question:: On Sri Lanka. Have you seen the news reports of indication of killing of 12-year-old son of LTTE leader by the Sri Lankan army?

Ms. Nuland: We continue to be deeply concerned by allegations of violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in Sri Lanka. At the end of this conflict, we support a full accounting for all who are engaged in acts of violated international humanitarian law. We also welcome the report by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, noting the strong concern about the Government of Sri Lanka’s lack of action to address these longstanding issues of reconciliation and accountability. And as you know, we plan to introduce our own resolution on this into the Human Rights Council. (End Text)

The 'scheme' that prominent and professional members of the Tamil Diaspora in Western Capitals started with the demise of the LTTE, branded by the FBI as the most ruthless terrorist organization in the world second to al Qaeda, as a long shot when Sri Lanka contended that Tamil Tiger terrorism was good as gone ignoring the developments outside her shores. Now it has taken root to the extent of the creation of a 'Kosovo atmosphere'.

The 'Three Fronts' are very clear: Navy Pillay's UNHRC, The West and the vibrant section of the Tamil Diaspora whose international organizations have publicly vowed to create a 'Separate Eelam' for the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. (The Asian Tribun will carry in these columns a comprehensive analyses this weekend how these 'Three Fronts' have in fact created an (un)holy alliance to challenge and confront Sri Lanka).

Sri Lanka military spokesman Brigadier P.R. Wanigasooriya in a long statement about the allegation of the killing of LTTE leader Prabhaharan's son declares "This is not the first time such unsubstantiated allegations are leveled against the Sri Lankan forces. Interestingly, these come up as we near UNHRC meeting and die down thereafter".

With all due respect to the Military spokesman Brigadier Wanigasooriaya, this is another very important step toward bifurcating Sri Lanka, an agenda Mr. Prabhaharan and his terrorist outfit failed to achieve. As this columnist has pointed out earlier, the pro-separatist Tamil Diaspora commenced on this journey in 2009 as a long shot but recent history of the development of the 'movement toward a Tamil Eelam' shows how the agitation, public diplomacy, strategic communication, fabrication, half truths and diabolical lies campaign culminated in power centers of the Western Capitals to incorporate most of the sentiments of the Tamil Diaspora organizations.

Wake Up Sri Lanka.

Following is the complete statement issued by the Military spokesman:

Begin Statement: " There have been several inquiries from our friends in the media about Channel 4 photos and videos that are much publicized in the international media.

"Sri Lanka is the only country to defeat terrorism in the recent past. Although the armed terror of the LTTE (which was once identified by the FBI among the deadliest terrorist organizations) has been defeated, the separatist ideology is still alive. There are many pro Tamil separatist organizations across the world that are trying hard to divide the country and establish a separate state in the north and east. The latest strategy revolves around international pressure and the methods employed are not genuine. They use lies, half truths, rumors, and numerous forms of speculations.

"This is not the first time such unsubstantiated allegations are leveled against the Sri Lankan forces. Interestingly, these come up as we near UNHRC meeting and die down thereafter. No substantive evidence have been presented for us to launch an investigation. Unfortunately, it appears that the parties who float such baseless allegations never want these to be investigated or solved. They want to keep them as mysteries in order to tarnish the country's good image as and when it suits their agendas.

"There is a well established procedure for investigating complaints. Already we have some complaints being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department. If there is genuine concern in bringing perpetrators to justice the concerned parties have to make complaints to police with evidence rather than floating rumors and baseless allegations through internet and other media. I wish they were more interested in having these investigated, and if they cooperate with credible evidence we shall solve these once and for all.

"Further, I suggest that the best way to know what is happening in the north and east is to visit and speak to people. Those who live there, gone through the conflict as part of the human shield of the LTTE knows better than those living far detached from the home realities, in the other parts of the world. Members of those communities are more knowledgeable about what exactly happened during and after the humanitarian operations. They have also witnessed the effort of the armed forces to save their lives and to make post war recovery as smooth as possible, with limited resources available at their disposal.

"Although some sections of the international community, with vested interests, try to distort the real picture those who visit Sri Lanka know better. Take a look at the following views of the Australian parliamentary delegation that visited Sri Lanka recently". (End Statement)
