Conference on progress of National Reconciliation and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka!

A conference was held to enlighten the world on progress of Reconciliation and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka under the patronage of Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa on 06th December at the ministry premises.

A distinguish delegation comprised of Permanent Representatives, Ambassadors, High Commissioners and dignitaries from Japan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Romania, Italy, South Africa, and Brazil joined their Sri Lankan counterparts in the discussion.

During the conference Secretary Defence enlightened the delegation on post war development activities and de-mining process of conflict affected areas and the government's post conflict achievement in under the 5R concept.

Sri Lanka's rehabilitation of ex- LTTE cadres has come under international acclaim. It undoubtedly is an extraordinary achievement which no other country has been able to achieve yet. Sri Lanka has set an example for the world to follow. The government has spent a colossal, Rs. 2.5 billion on rehabilitating these former combatants, providing them with education, industrial and vocational training. This is clear reflection of the generosity, commitment and genuine effort of the government of Sri Lanka in making the reconciliation process a success.

Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilaka, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuirya and Chief of National Intelligence Major General (Retd) Kapila Hendawitharana, were also present at the occasion.
